abstract = {In this article a new virtual \emph{Polar-Logarithmic
Sensor}, the so-called \emph{VIPOL}${}^2$\emph{-Sensor}, is being
presented. The main characteristics of this sensor are its great
flexibility and low construction costs. The VIPOL-Sensor gets its input
from a standard CCD-camera as a video signal, calculates the
\emph{Polar-Logarithmic Transformation} in real time and generates a
video output signal. By using video signals for the input and the
output every standard camera can be used to get log-polar transformed
images. In addition, some parameters of the sensor as the resolution of
the input images and log-polar transformed images can be configured by
using a standard RS-232 interface. Moreover, due to its flexibility,
this sensor can be used to implement other kinds of geometrical
mappings.},
